"What exactly are you doing here?" Julian turned to Evie, an edge to his voice.
She backed away and ended up against the wall, again.
"Ask yourself that."
"What's that suppose to mean?" He took another step closer leaving not an inch of space between them.
Evie’s breath came in short bursts. Her hands went to his chest and she felt the steady strong beat of his heart. She wanted to push him off but more than anything she wanted him closer. Her body hummed with awareness but she forced herself to concentrate on answering him. "Just that is was you who got me down here in the first place. If you're trying to kill me, I'm sure there are better ways than sending me to be chimera-chow."
"I didn't ask you to come here." Julian was frowning. The beating beneath her fingers sped up.
"Flavia said you did. Covering your tracks now, are you?"
She raised an eyebrow, trying not to think about the heat that simmered between them. From Julian’s rapid breath it was clear he wasn’t immune. "Don't be silly. This reeks of Persephone." When he spoke his lips were so close she just had to lift her head a fraction of an inch for them to touch hers. The heated brush of his breath called to her.
Instead, she remained motionless while trying to force her heart to return to a more decent rate. "I thought so too."
"Then why did you accuse me?" Julian's glared at her, although she was sure she saw amusement in his eyes. Evie lifted her chin, even though the action brought her mouth way too close to his. "How was I to know you wouldn't defend her and think I'm making all of this up? And how am I to be sure it wasn't really you in the first place?"
Evie's eyes narrowed as she met his eyes. He stared back at her, blinking so slowly, so lazily that she wondered how it was possible when his heart raced wildly beneath her fingers.

I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes... I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It's a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each others loves - it works wonderfully...

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands - I shall forever remain crosseyed.

I love talking to my readers so email me if you have any questions or even if you just want to chat...

But at night she creates made up worlds and places where those dragons come to life and the weapons are used in battle." Young adult fantasy, paranormal with a dash of romance author, Konstanz Silverbow; Proud Creator of magical worlds, fictional creatures, ideal super heroes and sarcasm since 2007!

We don’t race like usual. No games or laughing. Just silence as we ride through the trees and towards the gate. The one place I’ve always wanted to go. The one place I wish I was never going. The one place I can’t avoid. We arrive at the gate far too soon. I begin shaking. My hands tremble as I fidget with the reins. My entire body is tense. I’m not sure what terrifies me the most about this whole scenario but one thing I know for sure, this is real. It isn’t a joke set up by my parents. This isn’t just a dream that’s about to end. Tears well up in my eyes once more as I finally let the truth sink in – I’m leaving everything I’ve ever known and never coming back. Everything I know is behind me. And all that lies ahead is a life I’m not ready for. People wait for me because they love me, they claim me as their own but I do not know them. It’s like my whole life is walking along a cliff. One more surprise, one last push and I’ll go over. I don’t know who I am anymore. I don’t know much of anything. I’m walking into the unknown with someone I thought I knew, but don’t really know at all. Each haunting thought fills me as we approach the gate. So desperately I long to turn around and run now while I still can. “My dear Shanice, please be comforted and know that you are being watched over. No harm will befall you at this time. Feel peace, my daughter.” The haunting voice of my mother, the one who beckons me, overcomes my senses. And where it terrified me before, now her voice is soft and comforting. I feel the peace she wishes me to and as scared as I am, as much as I don’t want to go, I make it to the gate and continue walking as it opens with one loud squeal. Valentino allows me to enter first. Perhaps he can feel how much I feel like running right now and knows I won’t make it through on my own. But I nudge Star forward, sobbing uncontrollably. Five steps in and I pull on the reins. I turn around in the saddle and watch the gate close. More racking sobs overtake me as my past is closed behind me by a hauntingly beautiful gate.

My Review

I didn't realize that I could enjoy books about witches until I read the book "Discovery of Witches" by Deborah Harkness. After reading it and then "Shadow of Night", I was hooked!! Then I couldn't stop! I began reading book after book I could find about witches! So when I realized this book was about witches, I knew without a doubt I was going to love it!

When I immersed myself, which I do more often than not, into Woods' world, I couldn't stop. The characters were so likeable and identifiable that it made the reading of this book so much better! I loved Quinn and how she dealt with the many situations in this book. I don't envy her memory loss though LOL.

There wasn't a moment when I was kicking myself for trying to read ahead. I so badly wanted to find out what was going to happen that I kept trying to skip chapters! The story is so real. I truly felt like I was there. The author did a fantastic job of setting up the scenes and making me feel like I was there!

I was truly taken back at the end. There was so much going on through this story that I couldn't wait to have my questions answered. But I wasn't expecting this. Wood is one of the very few authors that will make her characters suffer and it ripped my heart out of my chest. 4 out of 5 stars! Hats off!!!!

♥~~Review + Giveaway~~♥ THE VIOLET HOUR by Whitney A, Miller

And the urge to obey is getting harder and harder to control….

Whitney A. Miller lives in San Francisco with her husband and a struggling houseplant. She’s summited Mt. Kilimanjaro, ridden the Trans-Siberian rails, bicycled through Vietnam, done the splits on the Great Wall of China, and evaded the boat police in Venice, but her best international adventures take place on the page!

My Review

I first have to say that this book was not what I thought it was. When I started reading it, I thought this was going to be about a girl with an issue with voices in her head. But, as I continued to read, I found out I was sorely wrong! This book has a sci fi edge to it that I found refreshing. There was a little romance that I found to not be as bad as I thought. Not that romance is bad. It's just, when I think of a horror story, I don't think romance.

This book is definitely YA. Again, not that there is anything wrong with that. I have read my share of YA books. The characters are easy to like and relate to and I like that the author helped by writing the book geared toward a YA audience. I like that the horror aspect wasn't too over the top and the "romance" portion was dubbed down for the genre.

There was a whole lot happening toward the end of the book that kept me reading. This book was a quick and easy read. I am back to reading my series reads but I was glad this isn't one. But, if it does turn into one, I will read book 2. Good book.
