***REVIEW*** Dark Velvet by Lisa Carlisle

Title: Dark Velvet
Author: Lisa Carlisle
Series: Chateau Seductions

Grad student Savannah Evans is thrilled to be accepted as a resident to a prestigious art colony. Where else would she be able to focus on her craft of writing poetry in a setting like that of the medieval-styled castle? The remote New England island is a respite from her hectic city life. When she meets her benefactor, a mysterious French sculptor, her expectations for carefree days writing near the ocean are distracted by unprofessional fantasies about her sponsor.

Antoine Chevalier built Les Beaux Arts on DeRoche Island to bring purpose back to an existence that has lost meaning. He’s wandered the earth for decades and finds solace in returning to art. When Savannah applies for a residency, something about her words touches him. After her arrival, a physical attraction grows between them, which he struggles against. She deserves more than someone of his kind.

Antoine proposes they become lovers during her stay. But the situation turns complicated when Savannah discovers his secret. She had suspicions about his identity, but finds the truth overwhelming. Consumed by her desire for Antoine and faced with a tough decision, she is blind to the danger that has arrived at DeRoche Island.

USA Today bestselling author Lisa Carlisle loves stories with dark, brooding heroes and independent heroines. She’s honored to be a multi-published author writing in different genres since she’s wanted to be a writer since the sixth grade. For much of her professional career, she’s written non-fiction — but she’s discovered writing romance is the most fun. Her romances have been named Top Picks at Night Owl Reviews and All Romance Ebooks.

When she was younger, she worked in a variety of jobs, moving to various countries. She backpacked alone through Europe, and lived in Paris before returning to the U.S. She owned a bookstore for a few years as she loves to read. She’s now married to a fantastic man, and they have two kids, a cat, and many fish.

When you first start reading this book, you are really set aside by the amount of detail the author puts into the surroundings and characters. I was quite surprised how fast this book moved.

This book is very unique in that the platform for romance is quite dark even for being such a light-hearted romance. I was a little disappointed that the romance didn't go further than it did in the beginning but I guess that is the whole point of suspense.
There were some twists thrown in there that I hope the author continues with in the coming books as I would like to see where they go.
All in all, this was a really good read. The story moved really fast and the book is a fast read.

*Warning: intended for mature audiences 18+

When I first started reading this book, I really got into the whole backstory of it. There was a lot of detail put into the surroundings and even the dialect of the persons speaking. I was really impressed.

The idea behind the book is really impressing as well. Mixing two different genes to create a totally new one is a really good idea. It reminds me of "Underworld" and I am a HUGE fan of those movies. I was really excited to delve into this book. The author does a great job of making you feel like you are watching everything happen before your eyes. Her story-telling skills are excellent.

This book does get very hot and steamy right off the bat! There is not a long wait for something to start happening. My only concern with this book is that after Finn meets Eirene, the story begins to take a different turn. There is a lot of emphesis put on the relationship between the two and not so much the story line I originally thought I was getting a glimpse at. Not that I don't LOVE a good steamy romance, but the idea that the author has come up with is magnificent! I want to know more about this secret society!

All in all, I give this book a solid 4 stars. I believe it could have been 5 stars if there was more emphasis on the plot and not their love lives, I do look forward to reading book 2 in this series. I would recommend it for anyone who can't get enough steamy scenes!

♥~~Book Blitz + Giveaway~~♥ THE CHOSEN ONE TRILOGY by Mireille Chester

The Chosen One Trilogy
*This series contains adult situations not suitable for younger readers*

Life for Hayden had never been overly exciting and that was the way she liked it, so when she meets the gorgeous Jasper on a trail in the woods it never occurs to her that life as she knows it is about to change. Quiet and mysterious, Jasper draws her attention like nothing she’s felt before. Suddenly, she finds herself a part of a world she never would have guessed existed and learns of a future she isn’t sure she’s ready for. Is or not she believes it, there are many who do and this makes life dangerous. Hayden must find a way to escape being captured, save the man she loves, and decide where she stands in the balance of good and evil.

I turned my attention to Braw.
“Tomorrow night, we will have a small demonstration of your power. You will help me liberate five beings from their demons. If all goes well, we will wait four nights until the moons align with the star of Juns and when the magic of this world is at its peak, we will channel the power of Laif through the entire world, whereupon we will rid the world of demons.”
My jaw dropped. “You’ll kill them all!”
Braw shook his head. “No dear. We will free them.”
“You don’t get it!” I could feel panic taking a hold of me. “The Namaels, the Majs, they’re not possessed! That’s just who they are! It’s genetic!” I looked up at Brice and was shocked by the blank look on his face. “Brice! You have to explain to him. It will kill you!”
Brice turned slowly to look at me, his eyes wide.

Hayden has made up her mind. If she doesn’t pick sides between the Namaels and the Majs then innocent beings won’t die because of her. Of course, things can never be that simple and when she is taken prisoner by the humans a whole new problem arises. It doesn’t take long before everything she thought she knew no longer makes sense. Could it be possible that the prophecy was wrong?

Rainen looked up in time to see my horse come crashing into the ground just a few feet away from her. Her eyes widened as she gazed into the sky.
“Hayden! Shield!”
I threw my shield out to cover everyone who was closest to me. I felt my energy touch Rainen’s and I glanced at her before looking up to see what had made the screeching sound in the sky. My first thought was about dropping my shield and to welcome the dragon flying over us. My second thought was that this was no dragon. The creature in question had to be to same size as Faren, the fire dragon I was bonded to, who was about thirty feet long. Well, the same length as Faren. Whatever this was it was lacking the bulk of a dragon. It looked more like a snake with wings and ten sets of legs. It was covered from head to tail in oily looking brown feathers.
I felt the push of magic come from up above and I pushed against it with my own. The energy receded as the creature flew past us. I started to pull back my shield and felt Rainen doing the same. The screeching sound came again. Rainen swore under her breath.

As the final battle draws near, Hayden must deal with personal loss, unexpected good news, and the usual attempts on her life. Was the prophecy right and can she do everything that is expected of her? Can she go through with her plan when just one mistake could wipe out everyone she loves?

♥~~Review~~♥ KING TOMB by Scarlett Dawn

Title: King Tomb
Author: Scarlett Dawn
  • Publisher: Escape Publishing -
  • Harlequin Enterprises, Australia Pty Ltd (October 8, 2014)
  • Genre: Paranormal Romance

From Scarlett Dawn comes the stunning, sexy, sensual, surprising, spellbinding conclusion to the bestselling, first Forever Evermore trilogy.

Queen Shifter, Lily Ruckler, has found solace in brutal warfare. Her bloodied fists and bared fangs fill the holes left in her memory, the blank spaces that leave her soul aching and empty. Her only pleasure is in blood; her only salvation is the relationship she has with her infant child, the baby of unknown origins who brings her solace and stability.

When Elder Harcourt summons Lily and her protector Antonio back to the United States, Lily thinks nothing unusual about the change of location. But a standard reconnaissance mission leaves her trapped inside King Zeller's private quarters, and at his mercy. Surprise attraction rapidly turns to a battle of wills and an intense power struggle that leaves no clear victor but plenty of resentment.

They are not allowed to nurse their wounds. In order to win the war against the Commoners, the King Vampire and Queen Shifter must work together. It should be easy. The war is turning, the battle is deadly, and both Lily and Ezra love the cold cleanliness of combat.

But their chance meeting has led to more than an unlikely alliance. Secrets have a way of surfacing, especially on a torn-up battlefield, and Lily and Ezra are about to re-learn all they cannot remember. If they can't control their emotions and responses, it will be to their own ruin and the destruction of everything around them.

My Review

So....the part that you have been waiting for....the review.

I originally began this series reading King Hall; the first book in the Forever Evermore Trilogy. I really didn't know what to expect. I really hadn't done many reviews online so I was a little worried how my reviews would come across since I was so new at writing them. I mean, of course I have talked about books to my friends, but never did I imagine putting them on the internet. How amazed was I? Not only did I get such a positive outpouring, but I also got quite a few new followers of my blog! How exciting! But it doesn't stop there. King Hall was fabulous!!! I couldn't wait for the next one!
Then King Cave showed up in my email. I was so excited to read it that I literally dropped everything I was doing to read it. I had it finished in about 2 days! I had my review already written as I waited for my publish date on my blog. I am such a nerd! I know!
So, when King Tomb came, I thought for sure, 2 days and this will be done. Then life happened. I became so busy that this book got put in the back of my mind. But when the time came for me to read, I couldn't stop! I read the book in about 3 days. This is saying something considering how much I have going on!
This book is everything I thought it would be! I was so upset at the end of King Cave that I cried true tears of agony. So, when I got started on King Tomb, I was a little apprehensive. I didn't know what kind of emotional turmoil Scarlett was going to put me through. So, as the story began, I read it carefully. I truly mean that.
My heart hurt through the first few chapters because I knew what Lily didn't. So, when she got to see Ezra, my eyes teared up and my heart broke. Because neither of them had any idea what I was put through because of them.
As you go through this book, you are automatically thrown into a blender of so many different important things going on all at once. There is no focus, on this, then that, then go back to this, then finish this up. Oh no! You are on the fast train of Scarlett as she whips through all the unimportant things right to the heart of the story. Once you are there, where else could you want to be? With Ezra. That's where!
At the end of the book, something very important happens. The universe is set back in motion. Scarlett gives me back my heart when she gives them back their memories. Yes, the war is important too, but not as important as that moment. When everything begins to make sense in the world.
Scarlett, thank you for the love you put into these books. This trilogy has been truly uplifting to me. These characters have become my friends. If I ever could imagine myself in that kind of reality, I could only hope to be on the winning side. I miss them terribly. When they each held hands and said "I missed you", I thought, "You have no idea". I love them.
This book is mesmerizing. Scarlett's range as an author is phenomenal. This trilogy could potentially be hazardous to your health if you have a heart condition ;). Be inspired. Be engrossed. Be Mystical.

excerpt

“I wanted to…” He finally met her gaze. “I wanted to thank you for the kiss. I haven’t been kissed like that in many years. It shouldn’t have happened though.” He pushed away from the door, and after a moment, he walked toward her, a look of determination hardening his features momentarily. With his every step drawing him closer, her breath hitched, and she clung to the hangings for support. When he was mere inches away from her, he simply stared at her face and then focused on her mouth as though the answers he sought were there. She licked her lips nervously as sharp hunger spiked through her. Would he kiss her again? Would she lose herself anew in his embrace? “Why?” she asked. He ignored her question. “Who are you, Jane? Who are you really?” His whispered question made her shiver. She didn’t know the answer herself. He trailed the back of his knuckles over her cheek, and another shiver rippled through her, like a pool of water disturbed by a stone cast into its depths. “Who am I? I don’t know…not anymore.” She was Jane, but she wasn’t Jane any longer. The more she was around him, the more she felt she was changing. Like the coastline by Sandsfoot Castle ruins, her sense of self was altering with the force of Bastian’s presence, which pounded at her like mighty waves. They would shape and form each other and become something new, only she wasn’t sure what that would be. She simply knew that she belonged with him, wherever he was. But he didn’t want her, wouldn’t have anything to do with her. Every time he touched her, he reminded her it was wrong, that they shouldn’t do it. Then why did he keep coming back to her? It didn’t make any sense, and she knew logically she shouldn’t want him either. He lowered his head and feathered his lips along her jaw, and her lashes fluttered as pleasure and need fueled each other until her skin was burning. “You are a mystery to me.” His words rumbled against the sensitive skin of her neck as he pressed his body into hers, pinning her to the bedpost. “You’re an American, but you act as though this place is in your blood. I see your love of my home shining in your eyes, even as you fear its darkness.” He stole a brief, hot kiss before continuing. “You look like her, Jane. Did you know that? When I first saw you, I thought you were Isabelle come back from the dead.” His hands cupped her shoulders, fingers tensing. “I thought I’d gone mad, believing such nonsense, and then I gave in and kissed you, and we…” His mouth trembled as he kissed her again, this time deep but too brief. “It’s as if the past is repeating itself …” He shook his head ruefully. “What does it matter? I want this. I want you, even though I shouldn’t.” She opened her mouth to deny him, but no words were there. His mouth came down hard on hers, and she was caught in the tide and pulled away from the safety of the shore.
